<![CDATA[PROTECTING & CLEARING MANUAl]]>Wed, 08 May 2019 18:14:29 GMThttp://inspiringyou.co/blog/protecting-clearing-manualOkay, let's talk about clearing, energy clearing that is. If you are an Empath or highly sensitive person then learning how to clear and protect yourself is really important. 
There are many circumstances when an energy clearing might be useful or necessary. Every item, person, location and situation has the potential for a healthy, well-protected aura (energy field that surrounds/emits from a person, object etc.) but a clearing becomes necessary when that energy field is compromised.
There are different non-beneficial energies that can disrupt the energetic balance:
1. Trauma
2. Taking on/absorbing negative energy from the environment 
5. Negative emotions and self-inflicted blockages
6. Other
Items that may need clearing:
1. Self
2. People, animals 
3. Home, office, land, plants etc
4. Objects (books, art pieces, furniture), crystals, rocks etc.
The first step in clearing is to determine what it is you are dealing with. Become the story investigator in your life by being curious as to what is "really" happening. First start off by observing or noticing how you are feeling or how the energy in the space feels. Then establish a diagnosis. For example, if the space feels heavy, dense or stuffy then this could be a sign that the space could use a clearing. The more you tune into the energy within you and around you, the more you can build up your accuracy and ability to diagnose. The more you can accurately understand what is there, then the better you will be equipped to map out a proper strategy for a clearing. Sometimes, clearings are multi-layered. 

Side Note: If you are unable to work this first step, I suggest sending out a heartfelt prayer for help and/or getting professional help! I will give you a couple examples of how to clear things, but by no means is it meant to represent a full set of tools that might be necessary in situations you encounter. Sometimes, Reiki or a Dowsing Energy Healing is what a person or space, etc may need to fully be cleared. 
Before you get started with any clearing, make sure you are properly protected. 
I ask the Divine Realm/God/Spirit/Source/Universe who is here for my highest good to put a strong white light barrier or white bubble around me so no negativity can come in. I thank you in advance. 
Another Protection Intention/Affirmative Prayer Option:
Depending on your beliefs; I am surrounded by the White Light of the Christ, through which nothing negative can penetrate. I thank you in advance. 
STEP 2 - CLEARING & HEALING PRAYER: You will ask Divine Spirit/God plus any personal guides/angels/masters/saints that you are working with who is here for your highest good for the following: 
(Make it a heartfelt prayer and be as clear as you can be within your request) 
"I ask Divine/God/Spirit/Source/Angels/Divine Realm who is here for my highest good to please clear/heal myself/this space/my friend/this situation/relationship from any and all trauma and negative energy in all time and all space with anything that it has caused and created negative energy and send back any negative energies to their proper place in the Universe purified, healed and transformed in a white light bubble in all time and space and please return all truthful soul energies to me from in all time and all space healed, transformed, purified and reintegrate them. I ask Divine/God/Spirit/Angels/Divine Realm to strengthen my strong white light barrier around me. Thank you!"
This is a good way of asking for a clearing. A simple clearing is easily accomplished this way.  Always make sure to connect into gratitude after you say a prayer or an intention!
Some circumstances however are a bit trickier because the clearing is multi-layered.
Let's say you want to help to clear a friend who has been surrounded by negative energies and feels depressed. You are using all the tools you have and nothing happens. Why might that be?

Well, let's say for example your friend has a deep-seated guilt issue and he/she feels the need for punishment, that guilt has the power to override any clearing attempt you make.
If this is the case, the guilt needs to be cleared first and your friend will have to do some self-forgiveness work (self-forgiveness mirror work meditation can be handy for this) before any clearing attempt on your part would be successful.
Another reason, can be that a person might not be open to a clearing especially if the item/energy to be cleared gives them power/comfort or is used to solicit negative attention.
Use discernment! If it is self you are dealing with, have the courage to be honest with yourself. Acknowledge how you feel, connect into the emotional frequencies of love, being brave and vulnerability then take a moment to see or embrace the "real" truth of what you are moving through. Ask yourself if there are any lessons to be learned before the non-beneficial energies can be released. Whatever the answer is, be kind to self and gentle as you move through each step.

If you are working with someone else, maybe you have to let go of the attempt to clear him or her for the time being and respect his or her free will. Lean into not taking it personally because at this point this is what this person is choosing as an experience. Make sure to up to your protection so everything else can deflect off of you and you stay in your alignment and space of love and compassion. 

And as always, have fun while doing this, you can learn a lot about yourself and the world from the comfort of your own home, simply by paying attention and rethinking/examining your choices. May God bless all of you on this journey!

Do you know that our minds are in constant communication with the Universe? Do you know that we are “sending” out our thoughts, our beliefs, our vibrations, and they are returned to us in the form of physical matter? Do you know that we attract people, places, material possessions and our experiences with them based on what we think, feel and believe – all of which are emitted through our chakras?

chakra (pronounced “cha”-“kra” with a resounding “ch”) is a center of energy. Originating from Sanskrit, it literally means “wheel” by association with its function as a vortex of spinning energy interacting with various physiological and neurological systems in the body.  Blocked energy in our chakras can often lead to illness, so it's important to understand what each chakra represents and what we can do to keep this energy flowing freely. 

Reiki is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan. It was discovered by a Buddhist monk named Mikao Usui, who learned to feel and channel the universal life energy that flows through every being. Every person can learn to use this energy for healing by going through a Reiki initiation in which a master awakens the student to Reiki energy.  Since Reiki was first discovered, it has always used the concept of energy centers that allow life energy, known as Ki, to move through the body. 

The major and minor chakras make up part of the energetic system often referred to as the subtle body along with Kundalini energy that, once awakened, flows through them and activates them. The primary focus in energy healing is on the seven major chakras, which run up the center of the torso and head and are the main focal points for the meridians, or energy lines, that run through the body. The minor chakras are smaller focal points where meridians cross. Essentially, they are points that regulate energy flow. If they are blocked or unhealthy, energy cannot flow freely and illness and discomfort result.

It is through the delicate art of Reiki that anything in our lives can be healed, if we want it to be. Healing can not occur when we deny the existence of pain.  Reiki helps to calm the mind; it heals our subconscious, the deepest part of who we are. This is where the source of our problems originate from, our core beliefs about ourselves and others. This is where we store all of our memories, good and bad. The problem is that many of us do not have direct access to our subconscious mind and are unaware of what lies within it. It is this mind that is truly running the show, working with our conscious mind.

It is both our conscious and unconscious thoughts, beliefs and emotions that alter the balance of each chakra. This is why it is important that we heal our thought process, because this is where it all really begins. A thought can lead to an emotion and when we  get stuck in that emotion or repress that emotion, or when we make it ours, it can become an block or becomes a belief. 

When we actively work to heal our limiting beliefs,  we begin to see a clearer picture of our reality. It is from this perspective that we will experience mental, emotional, physical and spiritual healing, bringing into our reality whatever it is we desire. This is where the power of Reiki can help us. By clearing up our chakras and intensifying the vibrations we send out, we are able to see the physical results more quickly! Reiki is synonymous with the Higher Intelligence or All-Knowing force that give us our life, and therefore can assist us in healing our life. Restoring the power of your chakras is about how you can take back control of your health and wellness by learning to work with energy. We all have the healing ability within us to connect! 

Below you will find two exercises, the first are affirmations that were specifically created with your chakras in mind, and the second to help give energy towards putting your dreams into action!

Now for the second step: Find a piece of paper, any will do. Write down your intentions, that is, what it is you wish to have happen. It can be anything; From healing others, to manifesting your dreams! Anything is possible when you let go of limitations.

Fold up the piece of paper, and place it between your hands. Imagine a bright light coming down through the top of your head, down your forehead, into your throat, your heart, and stomach, going all the way to the tip of your tail bone, or root chakra. Allow this light to connect you to the Earth and imagine it coming out of your hands, see it going towards your goal – feel it, imagine yourself there. See how excited you are to be in your dream. Feel what it would feel like, because through the act of imagination, you are there! (Just not physically)Allow this energy to flow for as long as you feel necessary. When you are done, tear up the piece of paper (let it go) and trust that the Universe has received your message, and will respond in due time.

By giving Reiki to our goals, we are “boosting” our vibration out into the Universe. The problem that most of us face is that instead of feeling excited about something we want, and knowing without doubt that we will receive it, we feel doubt; like it won’t come easy and that we have to work hard to get it. By doing this we set up a mental road block and how is the Universe then going to deliver?

Remember, you are opening yourself up to an endless sea of potential, the Universe! And all it wants to do is give you exactly what you are asking for. So take down any road blocks – silence the mind, and trust the Process!

The key to meditation is in the breath—to focus on your breathing and be aware of your breath. Breathe in joy; breathe out stress. In joy, out stress. Allow yourself to feel connected to the world, to the universe, and, most important, to yourself. 

Under perceived pressure or stress, we tend to hold our breath, and then we not only don't have the oxygen to our system that we need but also our muscle tension increases and then stress energy can get stuck which can cause us possible health challenges. Focusing on our breath for even 15 seconds a day can repair, replenish and renew! So, go ahead and try this exercise right now for 15-Seconds...

Home or work place is where you should feel safest and secure to be able to either rest at home or be at your best to do quality work. But, sometimes your home or work space doesn't feel so right. When a client comes to me requesting a Reiki treatment, it can be for a number of reasons. Many as of late are seeking holistic methods to support them with pain, stress and anxiety that they are experiencing in their lives. They are desperate for some kind of relief. The pain, stress and anxiety could be manifesting in physical, emotional, mental or spiritual challenges or a combination, which is causing discomfort. I understand that taking the step to do an alternative route can be a very courageous act for my future client. Let’s face it, we have become a society that has become conditioned to take a pill for any kind of pain including stress and anxiety but seeing a Reiki Energy Healer isn’t exactly being broadcast and endorsed by the drug companies. Although, Reiki Energy Healers are now in over 800 U.S. hospitals to provide complementary support of healing to patients. So, we are progressing in a more collective union on some fronts. But, many of my clients need help now and for some reason pills are no longer answering the call to mute the pain so they are now seeking ways to really heal. They want to unleash themselves from bondage of how pain, stress and anxiety has debilitated their lives.

Stress has a terrible reputation but not all of it is bad. The “good” kind of stress takes care of us. For instance, the “good kind” can get you across the street quickly when you see an oncoming vehicle, or it motivates you to complete tasks for work or school deadlines. Your body enters self-protection mode and propels you to action: your immune system, heart rate, attention and memory all gear up to do what it needs to do to survive.

However, when stress is chronic (think of pulling all-nighters more than once a week or working on a constant deadline for 3 months straight like in content production where every week a new episode has to be delivered to air otherwise what will fill the programming time?), it can turn into bad stress, which then goes into being in constant "distress".  It can impact your whole health in a lot of ways where you literally feel under attack - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It’s not just a feeling, either. Your body physically and automatically reacts as if it is under a real threat of attack.

When your body is constantly (rather than for just a moment) geared up for self-protection, your systems fatigue and start to decline. Then your immunity will drop (happened to me), inflammation will begin to happen (this isn't comfortable to live with. Again, I know cause it happened to me), attention and memory will start to fail and sleeping problems can arise. Other physical changes can also occur, like shallow breathing, muscles tensing, anxiety and the release of stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline.

It’s easy to feel powerless against this type of stress, pain and anxiety, but research has shown there is something that you can do. The solution, it turns out, is not to escape the pain, stress, anxiety or any of the other negative emotions. Rather, it is to change the way you are reacting to what is happening. Science suggests that there are ways to literally retrain the brain to work to support to heal the physical, mental and emotional pain. That calming the nervous system with a relaxation response can support to heal the stress, tension and pain. 

Reiki is an energy healing technique that uses “hands-on” healing. This technique can assist in relieving or reducing pain and discomfort by balancing the body’s energy centers. It is a natural process that supports relaxation and healing by removing blocks to the flow of energy in your body and facilitates balance and support on all levels.
I have a deep understanding of pain, stress and anxiety because my chosen career before being a Life Coach and a Reiki Practitioner  was an Executive Producer in Reality TV. In Reality TV, we often live on the edge of fast-paced deadlines with a heavy dose of daily stress and anxiety that looms over us. Stress had become an everyday norm for me. When in full production or on a delivery deadline, everyone around you, is also running on stress so it's a constant anxious energy that is floating around and absorbed by all. Working in Reality TV is not for the faint of heart but I did have a lot of amazing experiences and times.

From my unhealthy relationship with work, I ended up with a low immune system from a bout of pneumonia (I was on the a road show that traveled every 3 days for 3 months and we were on and off planes so I ended up getting super sick), inflammation, anxiety, depression, insomnia and all kinds of problems from living a stress-induced life. I didn't want to go on any medication but to find the root of the problem, change my way of living and ultimately find whole health healing. I tried all kinds of things. Eventually, I made my way to more consistent acupuncture appointments, mindfulness meditation classes, Somatic Experiencing Therapy and doing Energy Healing work. They all helped for a short time but I needed to break the mental and emotional patterns that was causing the actual pain. So for me, Reiki Energy Healing, the loss and grief programs, the cognitive behavior courses that I took ended helping me on all these levels. I had to deconstruct my life to reconstruct it in a healthy way. The Reiki helped to alleviate the pain and stress but also supported me in breaking unhealthy patterns by giving me added clarity and motivation. I was addicted to the "go, go and go and the do, do and do." I love creating inspiring shows but with budgets being cut, less staff to support and more expectations for faster with high quality was causing inhumane work conditions of sometimes 18 hour days, 7 days a week for months at a time. I was prizing myself as this road warrior in production life that could deliver all the story goods yet I was creating intense pain for my future. It's just so unhealthy to live this way in a constant and consistent way. The burnt out factor is real.

Breaking up my relationship with constantly being stressed took time and patience. From working on location shows on the road, I had a to-go lifestyle that kept me out of the grocery store for years. Don't get me wrong, I love some hotel living but I was living a very unhealthy adulting life. Once, I got off the stress merry-go-around, I had to start at the beginning and relearn how to take time to do self-care which included grocery shopping and cooking healthy meals to support a healthier lifestyle. Doing Self-Reiki Energy Healing and doing basic things like this eventually broke my habit of everything "To Go it; it literally slowed me down and brought me back into balance. It wasn't easy but took consistent work but I was tired of feeling aweful so what choice did I really have? I was ready for whole health healing. Reiki energy healing ended up being my saving grace but everyone is different so what worked for me may not work for you. But, if you are at the end of your rope, why not give it a go?

So now when clients choose to do Reiki with me, I understand that they maybe ready to really find healing from the pain, stress, anxiety while also releasing old energy, patterns, and/or beliefs that no longer are serving them and looking for whole health. My client, may be fully aware of this, or just know on a subconscious level that whatever they have been doing has not been working. The idea of experiencing a Reiki session to balance their mind, body and spirit seems to “feel” right so they made an appointment. Whatever the case, I am excited to begin the journey of whole health healing with them.

The reason why Reiki energy healing can be so powerful and effective is because it infuses your body with Universal life force energy. We all have life force energy flowing through us.  If one’s “life force energy” is low then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high we are more capable of being happy and healthy. As a practitioner, my responsibility is to simply act as a conduit for Universal life force energy in order to help healing take place, optimally, so that your body can heal itself.
During a Reiki session, you will feel relaxed, and be able to take full, deep and easy breaths. Your muscles start to release tension, your heart rate will become moderate and adrenals will be put at ease. There's a deep sense that everything will be okay and that brings you feeling of peace and a sense of new-found clarity that benefits you upon leaving a Reiki session. Most people benefit from their first Reiki treatment, while others work through deeper issues with additional treatments. Everyone’s needs are different because everyone’s healing is unique to them.
Since Reiki helps us clear energy blocks, it is no surprise that a client feels much more grounded, calm and relaxed after a session. Some even fall asleep during treatments. Whether awake or sleeping, Reiki always works for the client’s highest good for the client’s overall highest health in body, mind and soul.
For those of us who live in the city dwellings, it can be amazing yet it is also full of stimulation! For those of us, who are highly sensitive or empaths, can easily pick up on the energy of others then living in a big city can sometimes overwhelm our sympathetic nervous system. If we don’t understand how to protect and clear ourselves then we can easily get depleted and exhaust our systems.

What happens when our sympathetic nervous system is taxed and overloaded? As I mentioned, I know firsthand how this feels. It is not fun. Luckily, I had several healers on speed dial that would do 911 energy-healing sessions for me. Our bodies can go into fight-or-flight-or-freeze mode, and our survival instincts can be set into motion. When this happens, our heart rate can increase while maybe experiencing shortness of breath, maybe having difficulty taking in full breaths, our muscles contract. We may break into a sweat, and our adrenal glands get activated which increases our cortisol (the “stress hormone”) to move in and help us handle the stress. Adrenaline is our fight-or-flight-freeze hormone, which also gets activated by our adrenal glands, and helps give us the extra energy we need to deal with the stress situation or run away from it or even freeze from it. Imagine what happens to our bodies when we are in survival mode on a regular basis. Our adrenals get taxed, our system feels depleted, we get fatigued, we may hyper-react in situations or we may even develop physical pains and strains that are not due to physical trauma but emotional and mental health stress challenges that are affecting our physical body. I went through all of that again and again until finally my body delivered a bout of pneumonia to me. That was my wake up call. 
If you find yourself having meltdowns by over-reacting, sleeping a lot or moving through life like a zombie then it is a clear indication that what you have been dealing with energetically, has now manifested itself into the physical and has zapped you from your life force energy. If you prolong taking care of your emotional and mental health then this can possibly eventually create physical pain in the body.
In addition, when we are in a vulnerable place of being depleted like this we may be more open to absorb energies that do not belong to us. This can leave some of us feeling even more irritated, fatigued, drained, and possibly even frazzled, stressed out and overly anxious.

One of my clients, when they were stressed at work their back would hurt from all the tension of being anxious about deadlines and disliking the work environment. Everyday the pain increased as the stress heightened. Instead of dealing with healing the stress first, the client had been dealing with trying to heal the back pain by going to see all kinds of specialists with promises of relief but it wasn’t getting better. My client had been living with back pain for 2 years and had tried everything and was desperate enough to give me a call. My client started out with, “I don’t believe in this kind of thing. It’s really weird but I am out of options.” I love working with all walks of life but the skeptics have a special place in my heart. The athlete in me triggers to wanting to bring and deliver the best and optimal results for my client. Sometimes, Reiki energy healing isn’t the right fit but I love a chance to give it a go to see if we can get whole healing for a person living in pain, stress and anxiety.
Once, I started working with this client, the Reiki energy began healing the emotional and mental stress then worked its way to heal the back pain. It took 6 sessions but my client hasn’t had back pain for 2 months and now has some tools in the toolbox to help them through other challenges that may come up in their lives. Along the way, my clients learn meditation, receive information on loss and grief and other tools that could possibly be helpful in this game we call life.
But, if you are also an empath or a highly sensitive person experiencing a stress reaction then you could also be affected even more because you are possibly feeling what is happening around you. So if you don’t understand how to set up healthy boundaries then you can send out your energy without realizing it, which can cause even more depletion. Or you could feel someone else’s anxiety and not understand how to clear the energy from you.

When I began in working with another one of my clients, the client was often feeling really overwhelmed, anxious and drained. In our first session, the client was working through old patterns of self-sabotage and low self-esteem, which was keeping my client from enjoying a fulfilling love life, from moving forward in career and afraid to stand up for self. My client felt stuck, overwhelmed, anxious and really stressed. Since, my client is an empath or a highly sensitive person, my client was feeling and taking on the energy of everyone around without realizing how to set up healthy boundaries. Because of this my client regularly felt off, depleted of energy on all levels, scattered, and fearful. Often, when an incident happened my client would be mentally and emotionally spinning story after story, trying to explain away what was happening and sometimes going into the blame game of others. The spinning mind and blaming game can be even more taxing, stressful and cause even more pain. When we go into blaming others, we can disconnect ourselves from others and at times, if the hurt and pain aren’t addressed then this can spiral further into the negative emotions that we are already feeling like anger, resentment or frustration. If they continue to fester under the surface without being acknowledged to heal then this can create even more pain, stress and anxiety. Our negative emotions are letting us know what is happening but often we lean away from them because it can be overwhelming or uncomfortable. Look at it as an opportunity for healing. 
Since my client had such severe anxiety, it took my client at least 10 minutes to calm down during the first Reiki treatment. My dog happened to be in the first session and was pacing the entire 10 minutes until finally the Reiki released the anxiety energy. My dog has been in sessions before but usually sleeps through the session so this indicated me the level of the stress and anxiety that my client felt. By the end of the first session, I could feel that my client had released some of the old energy through the hands and feet, and the body was infused with Universal life force energy. My client had shifted to a more grounded and relaxed state with an aliveness and the Qi was back in full force. My client said to me, “Wow. I feel so incredibly relaxed and centered. No more spinning mind.”
Sometimes, clients only need one Reiki Energy Healing session but when healing deep layers like this then the healing can take time. After 3 sessions, my client’s wounded child started to heal which allowed my client to start to create awareness around self-sabotaging patterns. My client began to shift them, creating new and more productive habits that included compassion and self-love, starting to trust intuition, and take better care of body, mind and soul. All together it took 3 months of work with 15 Reiki energy sessions and several coaching calls for my client to feel like they found a new lease on life and armed with tools to support themselves for the future. They are still healing other aspects but for now feel healthy enough to stand on their own two feet which is what I want for each of my client’s. Each person’s healing is different and unique to them so some take more or less time. The important thing is to not compare but to understand to focus on your own healing to take care of you.
Being able to hold space for a client’s transformation is really a humbling experience and such an honor. I am awed at having a front row seat in the game of someone else life to see them reconnect to find #wholehealth healing. Truly awe-inspiring.

#HolidayGriefHealthTip: On this day of Thanksgiving, I want to give thanks to one of my best friend's from college. Jeremy, died in 2011, after a courageous 2 1/2 year battle with brain cancer. It was devastating to me. Even writing this, I find myself crying. For a moment in time, I wished our paths hadn't crossed because the pain of the loss was so great. I was unprepared for the roller coaster of emotions that grief brought on so I wished to negate all of it so I could have stable ground again. I tried to run but grief catches up to you. Finally, I found my way to loss and grief courses and in grief therapy, to learn to heal the pain of the loss yet keep the love and memories. Now, I see and cherish that Jeremy's friendship was a gift that keeps on giving to me. And now today, I help others move through loss and grief so "I'm so grateful our paths crossed." I know he is smiling as he watches over me because our last conversation as he said goodbye to me he asked me to promise to let the world see a part of me that only he and a few got to see at the time. As the name suggests, this stone is turquoise, of varying shades of blue and green, and it is easily found. A healer of the spirit, providing a soothing energy and bringing peace of mind. Turquoise is great for your mental well-being and dissolves any thoughts of self-hatred or self sabotage. As you can see, each of these stones has many different properties, and the above list barely scratches the surface of what each stone has to offer, or the many other stones available. Don’t worry about going out and getting them all — they will come into your life as they are needed. When buying them from a store, it is important to pick the ones that call to you.
To cleanse your crystals, you can place them outdoors under a full moon, or rinse them with rosewater with the intention to clear their accumulated energies and revitalize them. If you have a selenite crystal, placing the other crystals near this one and the selenite will cleanse them.

Crystals can be worn as jewelry, carried in your pocket, or left on a nightstand, under your pillow or at work at your desk or wherever you spend a lot of time at. They are great to use during meditation, and some can help to amplify your prayers.
If you are curious, but still skeptical, I suggest just buying one and seeing if anything changes in your life or if you feel any differently. The worst that can happen is nothing yet the best that can happen is that something will indeed change!

The feelings are all-consuming and eating me alive.” “I miss my mom. She died 5 years ago and I don’t know how to move on.” “Every time I am angry my sciatica pain kicks in.” Any of these resonate with you?
It’s unbelievable how much emotional and physical pain people are in.  Why are so many of us living with daily pain? Let's use sciatica as a way to examine how emotional and physical pain can possibly be interconnected. Remember, I am not a medical professional but I am an Intuitive Empath and Reiki Energy Healer that feels things in an unexplained way that science is slowly catching up to. ;)
In the last couple of months, I have worked with many clients who have sciatica pain. Since I am an Intuitive Empath, I can’t believe how incredibly uncomfortable and truly excruciating this pain feels as it shoots down one or both of the legs. As I am working on a client, I am, often, shocked that this has been almost a daily norm. Many are losing quality of life while being stuck at home, unable to endure the pain to make it outside. So, let’s put our investigator hat to take a whole health look at what possibly could be going on! 
What is Sciatic nerve?
The sciatic nerve is the largest single nerve in the body; it runs from each side of the lower spine through deep in the buttock into the back of the thigh and all the way down to the foot. It serves a vital role in connecting the spinal cord with the leg and foot muscles.
What does Sciatica pain feel like?
Pain radiating along the sciatic nerve, which runs down one or both legs from lower back is referred as sciatica.
Medical cause of Sciatica pain
Sciatica is commonly caused by some type of compression of the spinal nerve in the lower back. There can be many reasons for this compression. According to “What you need to know about Sciatica” by Stephen H. Hoshschuler, MD, “Sciatica (pronounced sigh-at-eh-kah) is not a medical diagnosis in and of itself—it is a symptom of an underlying medical condition. Common lower back problems that can cause sciatica symptoms include a lumbar herniated disc, degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, or spinal stenosis.”
Common symptoms of Sciatica
Sciatica symptoms occur when the large sciatic nerve is irritated or compressed at or near its point of origin. Seeing a doctor for sciatica pain is advised, both for learning how to reduce the pain and to check for the possibility of a serious medical issue.”

Making sense of it all: I noticed many of my clients would say I felt so angry/disappointed/frustrated/resentful at so and so then my sciatica started hurting. There seemed to be a situation that triggered a negative feeling, which then would result in this agonizing pain. “Nerves have to do with communication and sensitivity according to “Your Body Speaks your Mind” by Deb Shapiro. Sciatica implies that there are emotional issues affecting the back and legs, and that these are deep, inner issues. These may be issues to do with being able to stand up for yourself. Perhaps something is happening that you cannot take anymore, and it is making you want to go in a different direction. Or perhaps you desperately need more support and cannot cope with everything on your own any longer. Sciatica may indicate doubt or fear about where you are going and your ability to cope with what lies ahead. Are you concerned about where you are going and what is going to happen? What inner emotional pain are you sitting on or holding back? Is someone or something restricting your freedom to move? Are there financial or emotional issues putting pressure on you or weighing you down.”
Healing Happens with your Help: Carol Ritberger’s “Healing Happens with your Help” explains, “The metaphor of sciatica is being frozen with fear around manifestation. Struggles with time and money and a fear around survival are significant contributors. A person is usually overburden and feels like they’re carrying the weight of the world on their back and have nobody to help carry the load or to support them. There is deep-seated resentment, survival anxiety, loss of direction, and avoidance to do what they know they need to do. A person is hypercritical, overburdened, overwhelmed, overextended, and overly independent. They don’t ask for help or want help, but get disgusted when no one helps them. Another metaphor for sciatica is a dog chasing its tail, visualize it going in circles and not sure which way to go.”
Childhood Trauma: In further researching, I read Ravenstarshealingroom’s “The Metaphysics of Sciatic and Perimpheral Pain” and discovered much of what was shared was similar to what I was seeing and hearing with my clients. Her blog is definitely worth checking out! Here is one of the many excerpts from the blog that I ended up utilizing:

If you grew up in an emotionally tense environment, areas of the body that keep your feet firmly planted on the earth will be affected.  These can show up as problems with the lower back (lumbar, sacral), pelvis, rectum, hips, legs and feet. The hips and buttocks are the foundation of our physical being: the movement of the hip joint is crucial to our survival – whether in running away from danger, kicking an attacker, or moving in the sexual/reproductive act. Sciatic sufferers can display a lot of rage and anger when they are overly sensitized from being judged critically, verbally abused or punished. In fact they may often punish themselves because they’re afraid of trusting their own judgment. When the hips are out of alignment so too are the liver and gallbladder meridians …these two meridians help us to move forward to begin motioning towards something.  Unbalanced, they can metaphysically be caused by feeling angry/hurt inside, feeling used, unappreciated, let down, alienated. Who or what are you carrying on your hips? What are you taking responsibility for? Who is it you are supporting when you should be supporting yourself? Are you feeling insecure about something? Do you feel controlled by someone?
(Other people’s thought forms, projections and hooks can be attached to highly charged areas in your energy field and influence your actions and perceptions. Highly charged areas in your field are where you’ve not integrated emotional issues, like, poor self-esteem, pain, fear, anger and so forth…any part of you that works against your higher path and purpose can become a receptor site for lower energy.)
 What we don’t often recognize when our problems stress us out is that, we are locked in old patterns—old beliefs, old ways of thinking and doing things, old wounds, old memories—that unconsciously undermine our conscious desire to be free of suffering.  We are at the mercy of our past history. These deeply imprinted patterns and beliefs slow down our every move.  We feel off balance, reacting out of habit and fear, and rarely in control.
Fears create a lack of confidence and when we lack confidence we are affected by other people’s moods... kind of like a leaf flying helplessly in a storm. When we have a low self-worth it prevents us from using our imagination and to find a creative outlet.  Fear also causes us to hold back and repress our emotions, which can cause problems in relationships.
Past wounds that don’t heal, deplete and waste our energy. We just keep going around in circles with no escape in sight. Always with the same message, always eliciting the same reaction, every waiting to spring out at us. These reactions are an intrinsic part of your survival mechanism…your physical emergency response. If you were severely traumatized in the past, you may overreact or under-react to situations and relationships for much of your life. It’s possible your mother may have been deeply troubled, psychologically or perhaps physically unavailable; whatever your situation, her negative responses to your needs and feelings, led you to believe that you had no right to have feelings. The hurt or trauma you experienced then may have resulted in a deep-seated decision never to make yourself vulnerable again. “I’d rather die than need you.” Often sciatica signifies an inability to bond with the mother, though a deep inner bond with her exists. This bond exists because you need to hold on to her physically, mainly due to not being nurtured and loved by her.  If your mother didn’t respond to your nonverbal (and verbal) signals, you learned to distrust closeness to other people and failed to develop a healthy degree of trust. Trust is about moving beyond your comfort zone.  With sciatica we are afraid of diving into our feelings and needs because we associate them with attachment to home and family” shares Janice from Ravenstarshealingroom.

How emotions can impact our physical: From what I have seen from my own clients then in researching it seems there is a commonality that many sciatic sufferers may not understand how to show their true feelings to others. (Remember, there could very well be exceptions! And I am not a therapist but I do feel feelings so there is that!)
Some of my clients seem to have tried to express themselves time and time again when they were young and as well as an adult but were perhaps quieted or  misunderstood. Being silenced connects to hurt which then can lead into disappointment or anger or…Yet, no matter how loving or caring their parents were or loved one’s are now, they may not have met or are meeting all of their emotional needs.
As Ravenstarshealingroom continues with, “Sometimes our parents (and family, friends, co-workers, managers, etc.) didn’t understand what we needed because our own needs were so different from what they needed when they were children.  Sometimes, our parents (family, friends, co-workers, managers, etc.) are unable to give us what we need because they didn’t get their own needs met. When we aren’t able to express our true feelings or fears, we don’t feel safe or secure.  When we don’t feel safe, we either withdraw or get angry.  Either way, our anxieties grow and our self-expression shrinks because we can only access behaviors that are allowed to be seen. We’re unable to be who we are, so we become a characterization of what we think we should be.  If you had to compensate your feelings/emotions to meet the expectations of your parents, teachers or friends, etc.… your feelings/emotions might have become sealed in your sacral/hip area for a long time.
Many sciatic sufferers see themselves as chameleons, adapting to the likes and dislikes of the people around them. Most of them fear that their needs and feelings will upset or anger other people. Being uncomfortable with their own feelings, they are also unable to tolerate anybody else’s feelings. As you become familiar with your own needs and feelings, you will learn how to be comfortable with other people’s feelings as well.
As long as you are focused on outer solutions—you won’t be able to address the inner pain that drives you away from yourself in the first place. The process of recovery leads you inward to learn who you really are and what you really need.

If you do not care for yourself or listen to and trust your own feelings, you can easily become dependent on others. If you do not trust the messages of your body due to a past traumatic experience, your body becomes numb and shuts off. A wounded heart has a limited capacity to trust and be open to infinite possibilities. Emotional numbness can create codependent relationships; dependency occurs when we lack self-esteem or harbor a poor body image. Sciatic pain can either make you reclusive, shy and retreating in nature OR it can cause you to become aggressive, overbearing and deceitful. When you get angry and really ticked off, you attract people who want to talk about the same problems you’re going through. This is where you have to pay attention to the conversations you’re having every week with others.  How do they embrace your own issues?  Were you able to see solutions to your/their problem. These are also your issues and we all have to embrace our stuff.”
Your Body is Telling You: Love Yourself: In Lise Bourbeau’s Your Body is Telling You: Love Yourself she shares, “Sciatica may be experienced if you are insecure about your future or have an unconscious fear of lack of material abundance. I emphasize unconscious because, in my observation, sciatica is especially common in those who are materially and financially comfortable, but would have a difficult time if that were lost. ….Sciatica. therefore, is located in the body at the level of having.  You are probably not consciously aware of your fear of lack because you don’t think of yourself as attached to materials things……attachment makes you feel guilty because you believe it is not spiritual…..guilt however, impedes your progress and prevent you from taking a leap…If you are experiencing sciatica, your body is giving you a signal your way of thinking is a pain and is causing you distress; it’s really getting on your nerves. Pain always indicates guilt; therefore what are you punishing yourself for? What do you feel guilty about?” 
Heal Your Body, Heal Your Life: One of my favorite books is by Louise Hay  “Heal Your Body” which describes sciatica as “being hypocritical”, not being straight with yourself. A sciatic issue also relates to ‘fear of money’ and the future”. So, if you suffer from lower-back or hip pain, it’s time to look at your relationship both with yourself and with the people around you. Honestly assess your life and make some changes. Do you get support from your family that you’re not getting elsewhere? Notice where you are getting support and openly acknowledge it and have gratitude for it. Do you tend to always blame others when things go wrong? Try to see the whole picture and see whether you are doing something that might be contributing to the problem. Do you feel out of control when it comes to finances? Look closely at any financial downfall and try to pinpoint where things shifted from good to bad.”
Energy Healing Evaluation and Process Explained: Let’s first look at the Root Chakra. From the “The Metaphysics of Sciatic and Peripheral Pain”, “The root chakra’s is linked with the earth’s energy.  Its main function is to build the basic foundation of our identities; it’s here, we build a place called home—it’s a sense of belonging—a vital system that cannot be constructed without an identity.  The root chakra is largely driven through our instincts and premonitions, which help to build our personal and physical identities, which are built from our conditions, upbringings and education. “The Sanskrit name for this chakra is Muladhara, which means, “root support.” From the “Wheels of Life” by Anodea Judith,  “The sciatic nerve, traveling from the sacral plexus down through the legs, is the largest peripheral nerve in the body (about as thick as your thumb) and functions much like a root for the nervous system. The feet and legs, which provide locomotion, enable us to perform tasks necessary to obtain life sustenance from the earth and its environment. Our legs touch the ground below us and connect our nervous system with the earth, our first chakra development. We respond then, kinesthetically to gravity—the basic underlying force of the earth—constantly pulling us downward. This force keeps us connected to our planet, rooted in material existence.”
“Early in the healing process, many people have no idea who they really are and what their truth is. Not only have they used addictions and other distractions to hide their true feelings; they have also spent much of their time focusing on other people’s feelings and needs.  Of course, there’s nothing wrong with caring or being concerned about other people.  However, if it is at your own expense, it’s not only unhealthy for you, it’s unhealthy for the person for whom you are sacrificing yourself.”
This is important information for a few clients of mine: “You are not responsible for everyone you care about.  If your life is overwhelmed by responsibility, then it’s time to stop doing everything and let someone else share the load”, says Linda Joyce. While Ravenstarshealingroom shares, “Some have said that it’s almost like the bottom has to drop out of your world before you can grasp the significance of this stuff. Listen to your sciatic nerve, what is it trying to tell you? If old wounds surface, it means that the situation you are in now is draining your energy, and will continue to drain your energy until you acknowledge the emotional triggers.  That’s really what your sciatic pain wants, to be acknowledged.”
More on how Energy Works: “The sacral or 2nd chakra is connected to the sense of taste, the element of water and the lymphatic glands.  It’s affected by our emotional mood swings and what we love in the sense of our “tastes for life” (fashions, money, relationships, creativity, sexuality). The 2nd chakra interacts well with the 1st.  The 1st chakra connects us with the element of earth, while the 2nd connects us to the element of water.  Earth offers stability; water brings a sense of movement.  Water is also linked to the moon; it connects with time, and tide, fertility, menstruation and ovulation in women and the production of semen in men. Sexuality (sacral chakra) holds our greatest pain and denial.  Every shred of unfinished business and all our emotional issues will keep reappearing until we get in touch with how our body is feeling.  When we open the floodgate of our emotions they will turn our lives upside down.  Anything not in harmony with our Self will come up to be processed and healed.  All your fixed thoughts and ideas will come loose and you will feel as if you are shifting through time.  It will feel as if you are being crushed as your past and future collide. However, this will also free up an enormous amount of energy opening you to your creative juices and your joy.
Visualize a water fall over a rocky terrain, imagine looking closer and see how the water has slowly created (carved) the bed-rock of the earth into an expression of beauty; it looks alive, full of the “life-force” created from the power of fluid and motion.  Without water the earth would “dry up” become sluggish, infertile, and lifeless; our bodies need water to stay healthy, young and productive. Therefore water needs the earth to hold and “restrain” its emotional desire to “shape and control the world around it”. This means that the 2nd chakra relates to issues of power in the outer world and your need to control, people, events, and the way things happen.
In relationships, we look for someone who will validate, protect and connect with us on an intimate level.  But if we suffer from low self-worth and unable to stand up for our rights, we’ll keep finding relationships that constantly reopen our wounds or traumas.”

Case Study from Reiki teacher and alternative healer, Janice from her Ravenstarshealingroom blog: “Physically, sciatica means pain from a compressed or pinched sciatic nerve which can be felt in the back of the thigh, down the back of the leg, on the outside of the calf, on the side of the foot and in the heel.
Wayne contacted her, via email, because he had been suffering on and off from sciatic pain in his left leg (deep buttock/hip socket) area and lumbar for about 5 years.  Each time the sciatica returned, he tried different forms of physical therapy, chiropractor, therapeutic massage, daily stretching as well as anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen and naproxen sodium) all to no avail. Two weeks ago, he again developed sciatica in his left leg that was so intense he couldn’t bend over to put on his socks or shoes and he couldn’t walk because of the pain. An MRI revealed he had bone spurs; two intervertebral disks that had herniated and the doctor scheduled him for surgery in May. Wayne didn’t want surgery. 
Wayne gave her a quick run-down of his history and after sending emails back and forth, we scheduled a time that both of us could connect energetically at a distance.  Healing this way, allows a client to actively participate in the healing, either by relaxing, or meditating.  The vibration of a client’s name creates a spiritual link and as they relax, she scanned, listen and make notes of the symbols and messages the client’s body/mind shares with me… distant Reiki is then gently sent to areas (chakra/endocrine glands/organs) where the body needs it most.
The Healing: “The hypothalamus in our brains sees everything as world war III so when a memory (young or old) is remembered, our bodies respond to the chemicals. So the body is the one that suffers the pain of being fired, of losing a promotion or being rejected/abandoned by a parent.  The body doesn’t have a clue if the event is currently happening or happened fifteen years ago. Just thinking about previous emotional hurts can cause the body to respond as if those hurts are occurring in that every moment. Remembering emotional hurts causing the muscles to tighten and clamp down upon the adrenals, causing a huge output of adrenaline/cortisone as well as the sexual hormones.  With too much adrenaline, the feeling one gets is of ‘being wired’, electrified—adrenaline interferes with the brains neurotransmitters, leaving you feeling scattered, irritable, confused—physically, the body’s getting ready to fight/flight or freeze.
This is what was happening to Wayne. Fear, anxiety and mistrust was having such an adverse effect on his insides, that his aura and body was instinctively pulling in to protect itself, causing his lower back muscles to contract and clamp down on his sciatic nerve, causing reduced mobility and depriving his cells of oxygen and life-force energies.  When this happens toxic thoughts and emotions become trapped inside the body, creating a form of  ‘muscular armor’ in an attempt to feel safer and less vulnerable, but it takes its toll on the adrenals and the body’s natural fluidness.  When this happens the fascia tightens and becomes brittle. Wanting to know why Wayne suffered sciatic pain to his left hip and leg, I posed this question to his mind/body/soul. The left side of the body is linked with the feminine aspect, which is about receiving, being and the inner self. When the left side is unbalanced or blocked it creates a feeling of unrest or a disconnection from the truth about ourselves.  Wayne had literally cut himself off  from his life-force and the left side of his body was telling him to stop denying this feelings.

When we disconnect from the truth of ourselves, we are cutting ourselves off from our very life force, and we are in fact weaker, less … But in the beginning, it is simply the inner self saying, “No more denying these feelings!

Wayne’s mind/body spoke of feeling dissatisfied and confused about the self.  Filled with self-doubt he always feels he has to be more. With the right side having to compensate for the left, there are delusions about oneself and one’s motives. This can cause a person to cling to a fantasy about his or her own identity.  After the healing she asked, “Wayne if his father was estranged from him in some way. He told her his father was seldom at home due to his work in the mines, so essentially Wayne felt abandoned by his dad. The lack of a father, or authority figure, creates poor boundaries in a child and lack of what is normal in the reality of his life. The lack of life-rules can be very disorienting for a child, who will take great pains to hide the real self.
Hurting deep inside becomes a stumbling block, you can’t move forward and you can’t move backward.  You hang on to what is ‘familiar’ refusing to let go of a stagnating job, a person or situation that no longer fulfills you.  But you stay because it offers you some sort of security from the constantly changing world. Childhood traumatic events, which are so common, at any young age—jeopardize trust and faith—causing the exuberant wonder of a child’s spirit to falter.
When Wayne and I first made contact and I asked him to write about his life.  He had written a wonderful story, painting a picture that his life was great…except he forgot to mention his father was absent for most of his childhood, that his parents divorced when he was seven and he suffered the loss of his brother five years ago from an accidental drowning. Wayne realized his life was incomplete and that he was seeing only one side of his life; this was why his sciatica kept coming back. He was determined to explore the reality of his life and get to know his inner self.
Healing Takes Work: “To heal, we have to make a choice to willingly explore the pain, to put forth the effort to grow or we’ll stay a victim of the pain. But once, we begin to understand it, we can start to grow from it and begin making new choices for ourselves…better choices…choices that allow us to heal.  As we push through the pain and really examine it, we can ask ourselves, “Why is my sciatica resurfacing again and again”? “What thoughts are keeping my sciatica alive? Why did I choose to experience this”?  Relax your body/mind and allow your soul/spirit a chance to speak.”
Heal Your Story, Heal Your Life: I wish I could say all that y’all have to do is to figure out “why do I choose to experience this?” then the sciatica pain is gone but honestly this kind of work is intertwined with deep emotional feelings that have been stuck for many, many years or even from past lives so the reality is that you will probably need to learn the lesson more than once before the pain finally is healed. Healing intense pain isn’t always quick like going through a fast-food drive-through. I know we all want insta-heal but sometimes it takes patience, determination and courage to undertake the process of healing. I do leave room for the miracle of God that it can happen with one Reiki session. And Reiki Energy Healing definitely helps to heal the mental, emotional, spiritual and physical but healing sometimes takes the work of a Reiki Energy Healer, the client to take self-responsibility along with the guidance from the Divine Team or energy life-force. I created a 3-month coaching program called “Heal Your Story, Heal Your Life” because along with the Reiki, I saw that my clients needed coaching and encouragement along with weekly Reiki treatments to heal the deep wounds that were causing the pain. In being an Intuitive Empath and Reiki Energy Healer, I, often, get information that could be subconsciously hiding from my client that is brought to light to heal. It’s an amazing process of healing but it does take a willingness to roll up your sleeves to want to have whole health healing.

I saw this posted on one of the many Facebook groups that I belong to and I had to take a pause. So, if I merely say to myself, "Let go of guilt." Then poof, it's gone? Is it really that easy? ​Seriously, then why are so many people being called to be Therapists, Reiki Energy Healers, Meditation Teachers, Ministers, Acupuncturists, Hypnotherapists, Coaches or any other kind of professional out there that does service to others? 

Let's take me for an example. I had built a career and a life while also making a lot more money working in TV but I was called to be in service of others by the powers that be. It was time to utilize my services that I had been training for. Insert rightly cliched saying, "Easier said or asked in my case than done." Trust me, I had to be asked more than once by the G-O-D to career transition. I am human so I did my best to ignore and look the other way until finally I surrendered and let go.

While learning how to "let go", I found myself in quite a few "situations" where I felt at times uncomfortable or made me feel rather vulnerable but I would focus on two phrases by spiritual teacher Florence Scovel Shinn, "I look at wonder at that which is before me" and also "No man is your enemy, no man is your friend, every man is your teacher." Yet with all my "spiritual training and abilities", it wasn't a pretty process of letting go of my ego mind-conditioning, limited thinking, beliefs that I didn't even know I had until they surfaced but with lot of self-help  and spiritual books, coaches, healers and teachers I found my way through the dark to find the light again and again. If only, I could have been like the caterpillar hidden in the cocoon before breaking out into the butterfly.  But, I am human. 

So, I went through a long process of learning to let go of fear to then letting go of judgement to then letting go of comparing to then letting go of competing to then letting go of anger to then letting go of regrets to then letting go of worrying to then letting go of blame to finally letting go of guilt. And guilt for me took awhile. I had to go through each one until final I found acceptance. It wasn't an easy process. It took years. I worked with many teachers while also being guided by the God squad. I had to heal what was keeping me hidden. For some, maybe it is, as simple as saying, "I let go of Guilt!" But for me, it wasn't.  As an evolving human who seems to have an old soul on the spiritual path, there was a lot of layers from various past lives which needed to be addressed in different ways. Many of my lessons, I painfully went around the mulberry bush again and again until finally I found this nirvana of healing from all of my effort. That is when I would find the belly-laughter and feel so light, connected and heart-happy. Like a shiny new me would show up. 

I have found in my own healing and in witnessing the healing of my clients that "letting go" of deep-seated emotional beliefs, mental thought patterns, unhealthy fear habits take time, patience, dedication, care, and commitment to your own self-love for real whole health healing. I feel like we have allowed this new thought movement to often simplify what is actually more layered messy road of healing. So, I want us to start owning it. 

​I am all for positive, encouraging tips to be more Zen-like yet it doesn't feel authentic to my journey or so many of my clients that I work with now. I can't imagine telling one of my clients who is in the midst of a having a moment to simply say "Let go of Guilt." First of all, when you are in the middle of an emotional storm, most of the time, we can't even recognize, acknowledge or accept that it could be guilt/fear/anger/anxiety/judgements/comparing/competing that triggered because we are too caught up in the surface story. The swirl of the story can be seductive and consuming. We can easily be caught in fear where we do the He/SheSaid/Did/PointingFingers and blaming scenarios yet merely gossiping about what happened instead of taking any healthy action to resolve and heal. Most us have done this routine.  It's part of being human. We are Divinely Perfect in God's eyes but we aren't perfect. We are here to learn, grow and heal. So, once the initial emotional tsunami has passed then we need investigate what could be underneath and attached to find clarity and the real healing. 

As Pierre Teilhard de Chardin said, "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience." The human experience can be complicated. There is much we don't understand about the spiritual experience in our limited reasoning human minds. So, why are we seemingly trying to simplify the  healing of our evolving soul and humanity with a "if we only let go of...." then we will be in a space of Zen? Doesn't that in some ways take away the very purpose we maybe here?

Plus, as former cheerleader and now a life, career and healing coach, I want to keep encouraging my clients to find their whole health healing so they can live the life they really imagined.
